2008
The Dollar Floor Store came about Memorial Day weekend in 2008! It started out as a tent sale, although it rained two days of the four-day sale, the event turned out very successful. There were people wading through the water in the pouring rain to buy floors.
Owner, Chuck Moreau, was very impressed with the amount of people that came out to buy floors, so he thought of a business model that would allow us to have a year-round “tent sale.” This would include just selling product and farming out the labor hence the incepKon of the Dollar Floor Store.
The name came about while Moreau was driving on a local road in Bryan, Texas. He liked the idea of the “Dollar Floor Store” and creaKng a model that reciprocated $1.00, $2.00, $3.00, $4.00, etc. flooring for all budgets. That is when the name “Dollar Floor Store” was established.
2008
Our first brick and mortar came shortly aTer located on Texas Avenue in Bryan, Texas. It was an old Kroger building that Moreau leased. The building was 20,000 SF right next door to the .99 only store! Our plan was to target builders and installers to sale them products for their customers.
2009
As business took off, we expanded to a new market. Our second locaKon opened in Katy, Texas in 2009, with the effects of the housing crisis in 2008, it was a horrible flop. Our owner decided to close the store.
2018
Jump forward to 2018, shortly aTer Hurricane Harvey, our Moreau saw a need in Rockport, Texas for a flooring store. We opened this locaKon with hopes of being only temporary. In hindsight, it became a very successful store. We had a one-year lease on the building at the Kme, with an opKon to release for another year. Now we are in our sixth year of the Rockport locaKon and it is a major success.
2024
In 2024, we decided to open a third branch in Victoria, Texas. The town has great assets and demographics that Moreau knows will be successful in our business model. The grand opening for that location is this September.
It is our hopes and prayers that we have a strong finish to 2024 and a bright future with the Dollar Floor Store. Our plan is to open a number of these stores and a conglomerate will partner with us as a cooperaKve and we may see Dollar Floor Store’s all over the United States.
